I have learned over my first few months as Executive Director that BHECamps is a well kept secret, and the time is now to share the BHEC experience with those who are missing all the fun. You, current camp families love camp. Most of you come for years as campers, become staff, go on to become parents and send your own children. YOU ARE THE BEST PUBLIC RELATIONS we have. Please help me recruit campers. Our youngest unit has the most availability. Our introductory price with the $1000 campership (for 1st time, eligible campers) makes a one month stay as low as $1500!!! Contact me at linda@bhecamps.com for more on how you can help.
On behalf of the BHEC board of directors, best wishes for a Happy Chanukah.

MEET OUR NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR!!
(Posted October 6, 2009 by Randi)
Dear Camp Families,
Have you been to BHEC before? Are you thinking about BHEC and exploring our website? I'd like to introduce myself. I am the new executive director, having completed a wonderful career as Director of the Brooklyn College Hillel. This summer,I spent several weeks at camp as an observer. I met with children, counselors, specialists, supervisors and directors of each camp. Based on my experience and observations, I am announcing to you our theme for the 2010 season - "From Good to Great." It's a concept well known in the business and non-profit worlds. We have a very good camp. Here are a few of the ways we will become great:
We have recognized the needs of families during this economic downturn and have lowered rates for the coming year.
We will add to our already experienced supervisory staff.
We will emphasize what BHEC is known for - fostering community - while improving our "individual choice" program in which campers work with talented specialists on their particular interest.
Our Jewish program will embrace universal values, including a tikkun olam project (repairing the world)that will concern the environment and "going green."
We are improving our communication system at camp and have instituted a modern emergency plan.
We are adding a two day trip for our junior unit!!!!!!!
We have added more boats to the beautiful lake.
We will be stricter where it counts- but expect the unexpected. Good deeds and behavior will be rewarded with surprises that campers will love. Why??Because we will have a camper generated wish list. Tell me what you'd like and it will happen if deserved. (A midnight party? A wake up to watch the sunrise? An all camp bonfire with a great entertainer?)
We have the incredible asset of our adult camp. We will strengthen our already successful intergenerational program.
I was a camper many years ago for just one special summer at BHEC. The feeling of community that I remember is still there, together with the magnificent property, the star-studded nights, the warm and caring staff, and the commitment to cultural Jewish values. I invite all prospective families to make an appointment and come up to camp with me for a tour. It is quite beautiful in fall and spring, and if you don't mind snow, it is very pretty in winter too.
One of the nicest things about BHEC is that almost everyone who comes, stays. And when you interview new children at the end of their first summer, even if they are older campers, they report that they were accepted and made to feel part of the family from the first day. Our current families are always happy to speak with prospectivefamilies, adult to adult and child to child. Take us up on this offer. Our talented children's camp Director,Seth Adelsberg, and I are happy to speak with you and to hear any questions or suggestions you may have.
I look forward to meeting you,
Linda

White Wins!!!!
(Posted August 13, 2009 by Yvette)
These past few days have been terrific. Blue and White were neck and neck the entire Color War. Blue won Rope Burn, Blue and White tied for the Hall of Fame Inductions and White won the highly anticipated Apache Relay.
It all came down to Sing. The Rec Hall was artistically decorated from floor to ceiling with toy and story themes. The kids were all dressed in costumes and they sang their hearts out. Skits were performed and plaques were presented, but in the end after scores were totaled White took home the championship!!!

(Posted August 6, 2009 by Yvette)
Dear Camp Families, Alumni & Friends,
For the past 35 summers, it has been my great pleasure to have been a part of your life and the lives of so many of your children. I feel that we have shared important milestones and we share wonderful memories some that are still in the making. I thank you for this unique opportunity.
My fondest memories of camp have always been the children's laughter, their excitement at experiencing something new and the complete joy in just being here at BHEC.
To have been a part of this camp has been a gift I will always treasure.
As I begin a new chapter, I can only hope that my next endeavor will be equally as rewarding.
"Friends for Summer * Friends for Life", I not only believe it, I lived it!
We wanted to express our gratitude for helping make Alumni Day 2009 another huge success. Due to your contributions, we raised over $1,400 which will be donated to the Alumni Scholarship Fund. Some of our Shacks had the chance to hike into town while others enjoyed cookie baking and car washes. Last Friday Junior Unit out on a great Oneg performance as we presented "Don't Mess with the Rohan", a play on saving Shabbat in camp. All the campers participated in either an acting or singing capacity. Coming up in the next few days we have some "special" programming, shack parties, socials as well as the Banquet and Talent Show. LIT I Update
(Posted July 19, 2009 by Amit )
The LITs of 2009 have been quite busy with a numerous amount of activities. For the Fourth of July, we, the LITs of 2009 ran a carnival in the Rec Hall for Hill, Junior Unit, and Senior Unit campers, and boy, did we have a blast. Last Wednesday the entire camp went to the movie theater; many LITs saw The Proposal, while others went to see Up and Night at the Museum. Aside from always going on very exciting trips, we also have workshops with Amit and Seth. The LITs were given the opportunity to show our leadership skills, and explain the different types of leaders they are. Also, we were given eggs to carry for a week, in order to prove our ability to be responsible, and to not break the eggs. In order to test our responsibilities, we were given a chance to help counselors out and work with the campers on the Hill and Junior Unit. We also began to work in program areas, like Tennis, Ropes, Waterfront, A+C and many more great programs. We were rewarded for working very hard, and we went on a trip to Love Apple Farms in Ghent, NY, and we got the chance to pick fresh fruits: strawberries, blackberries, raspberries and cherries. The LIT boys and girls had basketball tournaments at Pontiac, and we all worked really hard to be the best we could be. The boys got 3rd place out of 8 different camps, while our girls did not win, but both teams worked really hard, and despite that, everyone had a great time. Seth Maher, one of the LIT heads of 2009, turned 21 on Monday, July 13th. For his birthday, all of the LITs prepared a Jamaican themed barbecue near the waterfront, which everyone made hot dogs, hamburgers, potatoes and smoothies. Later on in the day, we all went go-carting and miniature golfing, and then ate delicious food at Four Brothers. On Tuesday, we went with the Hill to the Cove and went bowling and miniature golfing. Everybody had a great time that day! We have been having a great summer and have been very busy, so be sure to check back soon so you can all be updated with all the activities we'll be doing in the near future!

After arriving at camp Sunday morning 19 happy LIT's started their Orientation. The first night we had a campfire complete with smores, banana boats and bonding games. The next few days they experienced a sunrise at Bash Bish Falls, set goals and discussed expectations. We have begun our biggest project for the Summer which is the "Greening of Camp" by studying outdoors with a Bishol Boker (outdoor breakfast complete with Rocky Mountain Toast), brain storming and exercising "Michzor" (recycling). Yesterday we organized and participated in a Green Carnival for the campers on The Hill

Senior Unit Rocks!!!
(Posted July 3, 2009 by Jenn)
Senior Unit has been off to a great start despite the rain. The campers have participated in games of dodgeball, wacky relays and kickball. In addition, the Senior Unit campers have the ability to pick a free choice daily (on top of hobbies). Some popular choices include Arts & Crafts, running with Jimmy, Nature & Pioneering and hiking with a counselor. Due to the rain they have also enjoyed special creative programming such as "So You Think You Can Dance" which was a blast!!!
Have a fun 4th of July!!!

We are looking forward to the Fourth of July!!!
