IDF Packages
(Posted August 8, 2006 by Naama Kalker)
Thank you for participating in the LIT's Tzadaka Project by donating items for the IDF "Packages from Home" campaign. We were able to collect 57 pounds of donations for the troops. Unfortunately, with the current security concerns, it is only possible to send these packages via FedEx. The cost for sending them is far higher than we had anticipated, so we are asking you, once again to help us to reach our goal of putting these items into the soldiers' hands.
If you are interested in helping to defray the shipping costs, please consider sending a check made out to BHEC and put "IDF Project" in the memo. We are hoping to reach our target of $400 by the end of the month.
Thank you again for your continued support.

Senior trip Update & Biking Overnight Update
(Posted July 31, 2006 by Elaine Weingarten)
Our campers finally arrived at the Quality Inn late last night (could say early this morning). They are in great spirits after a long day on the bus because of several bumps in the road which included a flat tire, getting lost and construction. They did however stop for a long lunch break and dinner as scheduled. Today should prove to be much more enjoyable. After s late wake-up and breakfast the group is off to Water Country USA-a good thing as the temperatures are rising!!!!!!!! Our bikers had a great afternoon of riding and a very successful overnight. They are currently on route riding the Millerton rail trail. They will be back at camp before dinner.

Thanks to a grant sponsored by Coca-Cola we have been able to offer the following Day of Caring/Day of Sharing Program. Our Senior Unit campers will host a day at camp for the Hudson Even Start Family Literacy Program, a local community program that targets pre-school and elementary age children from underprivileged and poverty stricken areas. Phone calls home
(Posted July 14, 2006 by Elaine Weingarten)
I would like to apologize for the confusion and frustration you must be feeling due to phone calls home. We are frustrated too! It appears that collect calls can not be made to cell phones. In addition, some services, such as Optimum online blocks collect calls. You may be unaware of this and will need to contact your phone service. We use 5 pay phones to make the calls. Confusing as some of our campers are using calling cards and have no problem while others just can't get through. The counselors have been helping and they get the same response. We have called in the phone company who promises to take a look, but we're not sure it's the phones. I promise to figure out a new system for 2007-just bare with me for 2006 and ANY suggestions would be appreciated. STAY COOL!

Tzedakah project
(Posted July 5, 2006 by Na'ama)
Each summer, we at BHEC choose a Tzedakah project that we invite our campers and their families to participate in.
This summer we have chosen to participate in the "Package From Home" project which sends thousands of packages and letter to soldiers in the Israeli Defense Force Units.
Please help us fill as many packages as possible with any/all of the following items:
Crew neck white Hanes T-shirts (M, L, XL) Sunscreen and Lip Balm M&M's (individual small packages) and hard candies (Kosher only) Toothpaste (travel size) and toothbrush Playing cards AA Batteries These items may be sent to the camp c/o Na'ama Kalker, or brought on visiting day where collection bins will be available.
The LITs will be responsible for repackaging the items and including a letter to an IDF soldier as part of their service learning.
If you would like additional information about the sponsoring organization you may visit their website at: http://www.apackagefromhome.org/
We thank you for your support and participation in this worth effort.
Phone Calls Home
(Posted July 4, 2006 by Elaine)
Phone calls home began on Monday. No one is scheduled today, Tuesday, July 4th. PLEASE REMEMBER: Calls can be made by Calling Cards, (if you sent one with your child) OR your child will be making Collect Calls to your home number. Cell phones do not accept collect calls. Please make sure that your phone is not blocked for collect calls. We had several campers unable to reach their parents because the phone was blocked and they were not sent with calling cards. Thank you for your cooperation.

Camp is in full swing
(Posted July 2, 2006 by Elaine Weingarten)
Your children have settled in. They've begun to make camp their home-even if it's just for a little while. They are soaking in the sun (no more rain), swimming, bike riding and enjoying all of the activities we have to offer. On Tuesday we will celebrate July 4th with decorations and a camp wide Laser Tag program and a Bar-B-Q down by the lake. On Wednesday we're all off to the movies. We see PG and PG-13 only. We're guessing that Superman may be the main attraction for our older campers while our younger campers will have options too at the multi-plex theater. We will post more pictures in a few days with lots of July 4th additions. Enjoy your holiday too!
