Open House this Saturday (5/12)

Hi everyone,

We are having an Open House for any families that would like a tour of camp this Saturday from 11:00am to 4:00pm. If you have not gotten up to see camp yet or have friends that you think should be coming to camp this summer, please invite them to our Open House. You can picnic by the lake, see a camper cabin and many of the other camp facilities. Please RSVP to info@bhecamps.com if you plan to attend.

On the camp food front, I am excited to announce that the folks from Silverleaf Caterers will be running our food service this summer. We had a retreat at camp this weekend and the food was delicious. Get ready for a summer of homemade chicken nuggets, macaroni and cheese and apple french toast.

Finally, please check the revised Parent Manual online. There is new information about how we will be doing luggage, medication, and electronic devices this year.

Only 50 more days till summer starts!

Alumni Day Postponed / Survey / Oldies Can Still Sign Up

Hi everyone,

At our alumni meeting last week, the group decided to postpone June Alumni weekend/Alumni Day. The Oldies Weekend is still happening and you can still sign up even though the form says the deadline has passed. If all Alumni would take a quick, two question survey that will help us with our planning. You can get to the survey HERE. First group is on the AVC side for the year this weekend! Wish us luck.

Pre-1975 "Oldies" Reunion Aug 23-26

Hey everyone,

I would like to invite all the Bronx Housers out there to a Pre-1975 "Oldies" (not my word choice-it came from your peers) Reunion from August 23rd to August 26th up at Camp. Come spend a few days at camp, sit by a camp fire, swim in the lake, take out a boat, play the guitar, and share stories about what camp was like when it was your home away from home. These days camp has housing accommodations ranging from nice simple motel style rooms with private baths to more rustic rooms with shared baths, so the long weekend can be as comfortable or as camp like as you want it to be.

Rumor has it that Lenny Sadofsky, Shelley Adatto Sadofsky, Randy Schneider Soderman, Faith Rasten, Paul Butler, Dave Bendich, Brandon Strahl, Sandy Hanover-Ebner, Helanie Nord, Lennard Davis already have their bags packed for the trip back to camp! Please join them for what will be a wonderful weekend by following the link below and returning the registration form to camp by April 15, 2012 to join in the fun.

Dear Berkshire Hills Families,

I have only been on the job for a few weeks, and I can already tell I am in the right place. Everyone that I have met in the Berkshire Hills Community has been warm, welcoming and excited to make camp even better than it already is.

For the past six and a half years, I have been living and breathing camp everyday as the Executive Director of the American Camp Association, New York and New Jersey. I have visited hundreds of camps, helped parents find the right camps for their children and overseen the professional development program for camp directors in this region. I have learned more about camp than I ever knew there
was to learn.

In all that time, I was not tempted to leave ACA, NY and NJ to lead a camp until I was introduced to Berkshire Hills. Berkshire Hills is a beautiful camp with strong Jewish values. It is the kind of place where I want to raise my seven year old daughter and three and a half year old son alongside all of your children. I am eager to take all I have learned at ACA and in the sixteen years I spent growing up at resident camp, and strengthen Berkshire Hills while preserving its spirit.

Over the next few weeks, I plan to hire a full time assistant director, review and strengthen the camp program with some of camp's existing leadership, reformulate the Leader in Training program and start hiring the rest of the staff for this summer. I will keep you all up to date throughout this process, so you will all have the latest news from camp.

I look forward to meeting more of you before the summer starts and to taking my first dive into the lake when the weather gets a little warmer!
