About Our Summer CampOur staff is something special! We know that the recipe for a fun filled, exciting and successful summer experience lies in our counselor staff. That is why we grow our own with 85% of our staff returning each summer. We know they will provide the same great camp experience and loving care they received themselves. It is reassuring that we know our counselors well. We employ over 100 individuals for 200 campers. Counselors, specialty counselors, adult supervisors, support staff and a great medical team (doctor & RN's) comprise our family.
All our bunk counselors are American - we feel they can relate best to the campers. Our positive & dynamic staff provides a safe and fun environment in which your child can learn new things and grow. Meet our DirectorsElaine K. Weingarten, L.M.S.W., Executive Director
Elaine started at BHEC in 1973 and has held the position of counselor, unit head, program director, children's camp director and assistant executive director before becoming the Director of camp in 2005. Her love of camp began in 1973 when she became a counselor at BHEC. She came to camp with some college friends who wanted a break from the "city". Camp has been her second home. It is where she has made lifelong friends and raised her family. This experience led her to pursue a Masters degree in social work from the Wuzweiller School of Social Work. Her concentration in Group Work was specifically chosen in order to enhance her skills in working with BHEC campers and and their families. A licensed Social Worker since 1979, Elaine continues to bring her love of camp, professional development and experience to camp. Elaine is a member of the Association of Federation Camps and New York State Camp Directors Association.
